Debaleena Chattopadhyay

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I direct the UIC Human-Computer Interaction laboratory.

I study human-computer interaction, especially novel interaction experiences, socio-technical systems, and input technologies. I am a member of the Electronic Visualization Laboratory.

Previously, I have designed gesture-based interactions for large displays, studied trust in computerized clinical alerts, and explored why computer-modeled entities, when appearing almost real, elicit eerie feelings. I spent the summer of 2015 at the Human Experience & Design group at Microsoft Research Cambridge in the UK working on social devices. Prior to joining UIC, I received a Ph.D. in human-computer interaction from the Indiana University and MS in computer science from the Stony Brook University.
